Vivekananda Kendra

Vivekananda Kendra, the Spiritually-oriented Service Mission is headquartered at Kanyakumari. With a non-Sanyasi cadre of Jeevanvrati and Sevavrati karyakartas, it has taken up work in the field of Education, Rural Development, Publication and Yoga throughout the nation. It is a Society registered under the Societies Registration Act 1860 (34 of 1963).

The organisation has undertaken a number of Service activities in the strategically-located eastern-most arm of Bharat – Arunachal Pradesh with the view to develop it as a Model State exemplifying the theme: Development Through Culture.

Let Her arise – out of the peasants’ cottage, grasping the plough; out of the huts of the fisherman, the cobbler, and the sweeper. Let Her spring from the grocer’s shop, from beside the oven of the fritter-seller. Let Her emanate from the factory, from marts and from the markets.

The Mission: Phase-wise Evolution of the work in Arunachal Pradesh:

• THE FIRST PHASE: 1977 - Establishment of the Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalayas (VKV’s). Now, Twenty-two VKV’s with Eight thousand students function in fourteen of sixteen districts. VKV’s have now carved a niche for two-dimensional aspect of education that Swamiji emphasized: Academic and Cultural.
• THE SECOND PHASE: 1993 - Vivekananda Kendra Arun Jyoti – a Multi-dimensional Service Project to accelerate the process of self-propelled development at the grassroots while nourishing the traditional socio-cultural fabric of the ethnic communitie
• THE THIRD PHASE: 1993 – Starting of the activities of Vivekananda Kendra Arun Jyoti Vivekananda Kendra Institute of Culture [henceforth, VKIC] in Arunachal Pradesh. Visualized as the Intellectual Fountainhead of the North-east VKIC was established in 1993 in Guwahati.
