Vedanta Vachaspati Radhanath Phukan Memorial Lecture at VKIC Guwahati

Vivekananda Kendra Kanyakumari, Assam Prant, Kamrup Vibhag, Vivekananda Kendra Institute of Culture (VKIC) organized the 13th Vedanta Vachaspati Radhanath Phukan Memorial Lecture on the topic “Practical Vedanta of Swami Vivekananda” in Guwahati on 4th January 2025. More than 85 people attended the event.

The lecture was delivered by Dr. Ram Nath Jha, a professor from the School of Sanskrit and Indic Studies at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi. Dr. Jha emphasized that the central idea of Vedanta is the Vision of Oneness, deeply rooted in our dharma. He explained that dharma is not merely religion but refers to duties, and that Bharat is a dharmic society.

The event also featured the launch of the "Works of Vedanta Vachaspati Radhanath Phukan", translated by Sri Manohar Verma. The launch took place in the presence of Sri Kalyan Phukan, a family member of Sri Radhanath Phukan, and other dignitaries, including Dr. Ramesh Deka, Hon'ble Vice Chancellor of Cotton University, and Dr. Joram Begi, Trustee and Chairman of Vivekananda Kendra Institute of Culture.

Sri Manohar Verma shared his experiences of translating the works of Radhanath Phukan (1875-1964), a great luminary of Assam. He noted, “Vedanta Vachaspati Radhanath Phukan’s works were based on the Vedantic philosophy of Oneness.”

In his address as the Chief Guest, Dr. Ramesh Deka spoke about Swami Vivekananda’s practical application of Vedanta. He remarked, “Swami Vivekananda practically and skillfully applied the teachings of Vedanta. Service to not just Man but all creatures is the teachings of Vedanta which can only be realised by each one of us, if we serve our motherland selflessly.”

Vivekananda Kendra Institute of Culture (VKIC) is a cultural research project based in Guwahati, part of the Vivekananda Rock Memorial and Vivekananda Kendra Kanyakumari.
