The book entitled The Main Ceremonies of the Khasi is a     translated work by Bijoya Sawain of three vernacular authors   K.S. Marbaniang, Sitimon Sawain and Wallamphang Roy the   book centered on the three important ceremonies of the Khasi   community, their importance, and series of step and activities   involved on it. Sawain has to her credit translated several   books from Khasi into English which are mainly on the life and   culture of the Khasi community..........

Book Summary on Tradition System of the Dimasa

“The Traditional Systems of the Dimasa” is a monograph on the Dimasa community in the Dima Hasao district of Assam compiled out of the papers presented in the seminar held at Maibang, Dima Hasao erstwhile North Cachar Hills on the theme ‘Traditional Systems: Change and Continuity’. This book can be considered as an exquisite exploration into the history and life of the Dimasa. The book provides valuable insight into various aspects of the community viz. their village organization, origin and history, domestic and social life, religious life, folklores, traditional healing systems, marriage systems, festivals etc.

VKIC’s 25 Years Celebration with Vivek Murchhana

The celebration of 25 years of the foundation of Vivekananda Kendra Institute of Culture, Uzan Bazar, Guwahati, commenced here on 23 January (Sunday) 2022 with a musical performance titled ‘Vivek Murchhana’ as an offering to the Almighty.The program anchored by noted classical vocalist Smt Mitali De, witnessed the rendition of acclaimed classical vocalist Sri Jiten Basumatary, followed by a Sarod recital by renowned sarod maestro Sri Tarun Kalita, and a Sattriya dance performance by leading Satriya dance exponent Smt Anita Sharma. She also choreographed Sada Vivekanandamayem rendition in Sattriya form which invited the maximum applause from the audience.Earlier, in his welcome address, Sri Pravin Dabholkar, All India Treasurer, Vivekananda Kendra Kanyakumari and trustee Vivekananda Kendra Institute of Culture (VKIC) spoke about the intangible service of the VKIC for the past 25 years towards the culture tradition of north eastern India.
